From Spark to Circuit: Designing for Motivation, Meaning, and Hope in the Classroom
Friday, 7th November 2025Keynote Speaker
Educators in the C茅gep system are uniquely positioned to reimagine what teaching and learning can become. This session draws on the Hope Circuits framework鈥攁 systems-based, research-informed approach to educational renewal across over 60 institutions鈥攖o explore how we can create classrooms that spark curiosity, deepen motivation, and foster a culture of student flourishing.
We will explore how to cultivate 鈥渉ook questions鈥濃攑rovocative, generative inquiries that invite students to explore answers that are possible but not predetermined, and that connect with course competencies. These questions can serve as catalysts for both intellectual engagement and identity formation鈥攈elping students see themselves as co-creators of knowledge rather than passive recipients.
Through storytelling, interactive reflection, and shared inquiry, Jessica Riddell will introduce conceptual tools that help educators move beyond mere survival toward more hopeful, human-centered forms of teaching.

Imagine the Butterfly: Fostering Confidence Through Feedback
Friday, 7th November 2025Fostering Confidence Through Feedback
Writing comments is one important way we can personalize a student鈥檚 learning journey. But do we always consider how the human being on the receiving end might perceive our words? Comments can go a long way in fostering confidence in developing writers, but they can often go the opposite way. This workshop will give you tools to reimagine feedback as an engine to turn your students into motivated, self-regulated learners.

The Myth of the Average Student
Friday, 7th November 2025The Myth
Do you struggle with targeting the level of instruction and support for your students, worrying that some may feel overwhelmed while others are bored? Faced with diverse backgrounds and abilities, we often resort to designing our courses for the "average" student, opting to target the middle, given the wide range of strengths and weaknesses. But what if this "average student" doesn't really exist? In this workshop we will explore "the jaggedness principle" and learn why we should design to the edges, leveraging flexible design to meet a diverse range of student needs without compromising standards or designing a unique curriculum for each student.
